In 2022 During the IPL season, Uttarakhand-born Madhwal was brought in to replace the injured Suryakumar Yadav in MI. The team has retained it at a base price of Rs 20,000.
Madhwala in 2019 was first noticed by former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer while the latter coached the Uttarakhand team. Then in 2021 he signed with Royal Challengers Bangalore but worked only as a bowler and failed to break into the team.
He then joined MI in 2022. and became the first player representing Uttarakhand to play in the IPL.
