Akash Madhwal In Rcb
Akash Madhwal In Rcb – Mumbai Indians (MI) cruised into Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as they thrashed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 81 runs and set up a huge clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday.
MI faced LSG three times before the eliminators and lost all three games, but finally broke the jinx when they needed it most. For a team criticized before the start of the season for poor marketing performance, they are now one win away from playing in a seventh IPL final. Who cares?

MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. In their 20 overs, MI managed to post 182 runs on the board, which is believed to be more than Chepauk but far from a safe number considering the number of successful runs this season.

Not only that, MI’s bowling even looked toothless for a long time. Apart from Jason Behrendorff and Piyush Chawla, no bowler has crossed 10 wickets this season.
Now Akash Madhwal has joined that list. He picked up five wickets in 3.3 overs and scored just five runs (yes, his figures were 3.3-0-5-5) as LSG lost their last eight wickets for just 32 runs.
He became the first bowler in the history of IPL to be selected by FIFA in the playoffs. His best performance in the IPL playoffs was 4-13 by former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) quick Doug Bollinger in the semi-final against Deccan Chargers (now defunct) in 2010.
He also broke Anil Kumble’s 14-year-old record of highest five-wicket haul at 1.43 runs per over. Kumble, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered 3-1-1-5-5 with an economy rate of 1.57 in an IPL match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2009.

Speaking to the media after the match, Madhwal reminisced about his early days as RCB’s netminder and said that he did not get the kind of backing and support he got from his current team, MI.
“I was in RCB as a net bowler in 2019, I didn’t get a chance there. Then I joined MI and got a chance here.”

“Obviously my strength is mine. Rohit brother knew what my strength was. As a captain he used me when the team needed it. Then I also bowled the net with the new ball. So he thought I could. The new ball. I did well in the gym. New ball wickets. He gave me the ball where he believed in me. And I showed myself. I am very calm. I am relaxed and I am happy because I am following what I love. Rohit keeps me calm and supports me. Other than that I am enjoying my cricket. .”
Rohit Sharma was full of praise for Madhwal, who has been an unlikely hero in a weak bowling line-up this year without Jofra Archer or Jasprit Bumrah, taking nine wickets in his last two matches.
“Yeah, look, he was part of the season last year as a utility bowler. We brought him in last year but he didn’t [play]. But we knew what he had. When Jofra left, we knew. We needed someone who could play back and When I got him, after seeing enough of him, I was confident he could work for us. He has a lot of talent, a good attitude and a lot of character. It was good to see him and the scouts talk, we’ve seen a lot of people over the years. Mumbai Indians come and play in India and they have done well. The guys behind the scenes are working for us in the background.” Who is Akash Madhwal, the Mumbai Indians bowler who scored a brilliant 20th against RCB?
